Founders Favourites

The first question you’re asked when you mention to others you’re a filmmaker or actor is ‘What have you done that I’ve seen?’ then, after trying to explain without sounding like a loser or a fraud just how difficult it is to get your work out there the second question soon follows, ‘So what’s you’re favourite film?’. The truth is for most filmmakers, and most people, this simple question is surprisingly complex. For many, it can be answered with a personal favourite that immediately springs to mind, ‘Top Gun’, ‘Star Wars’, ‘Twilight’ ‘Harry Potter’ ‘The Unbearable Lightness of Being’. For others it’s a diverse and changeable list, new films or older pieces, rediscoveries and reemerging directors’ cuts cropping in and out of the smorgasboard of those we’re currently enamored by. And just as a culinary expert enjoys the occasional meal of cheese and beans on toast, so do filmmakers love their classics, their quirky, lesser-known art house pieces, world cinema and the occasional slice of cheese, minus the beans. So at this point in time, my ever changing list roughly resembles…

Back to the Future

In this 1980s sci-fi classic, small-town California teen Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is thrown back into the '50s when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) goes awry. Traveling through time in a modified DeLorean car, Marty encounters young versions of his parents (Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson), and must make sure that they fall in love or he'll cease to exist. Even more dauntingly, Marty has to return to his own time and save the life of Doc Brown.
